VINTAGE 48

Owner: Angelo Bruni
Project: Alessandro Vismara e Otto Villani

The Vintage 48 comes out of the joint vision of owner Angelo Bruni with architects Vismara and Villani.

The mandate was clear: a work reflecting the personality and tastes of the owner – who is a fashion designer – and translate it into a marine and habitable yacht that can be used all year round, and not just for a few days’ holiday.

Many design options converge towards the goal, starting with Nabys wood technology, to enhance the moisture-free comfort of the interiors, and to make the boat suitable for sailing in light air conditions. And then the radical innovations in sail and motor propulsion, to simplify handling and management as much as possible.

The result is a sui generis boat, personal and distinctive, that becomes an environment of living, working and expressing passion for the sea.

HERITAGE AND INNOVATION

Vintage is a 48-feet boat drawing back to the historic heritage of yachting, seeking the utmost in elegance through the essential reduction of functional materials, therefore through the cleanliness of the forms. While conveying suggestions of yesteryear, the yacht brings substantial innovations: the sail plan without a mainsail, the cockpit on same level with the interior, large windows, and retractable outboard motorisation.

A yacht designed to allow ample roominess and extreme ease of manoeuvre. Prompt to sail with a small crew or even solo.

PERSONALITY AND STRUCTURE

The lines of the hull are slender, and the design is distinguished by the defined deck saloon, the volumes with large windows that can be opened to immerse oneself in the marine environment, the set back mast, the large rudder wheel, and the continuity between the stern and bow decks curved on different floors.

The boat combines the best materials according to use and stresses. The hull is made of red cedar assembled with strip planking technique, the sides and deckhouse are made of okoumè, the supporting structures are made of iroko, with some limited carbon reinforcements.

The result is a light and smooth boat with a reduced displacement compared to a ordinary fibreglass yacht.

The Vintage 48 is equipped with two outboard engines, which retract during sailing so as not to generate friction. This solution has several advantages, including long autonomy and light weight, but above all it makes travelling fast and greatly simplifies manoeuvrability: the boat can rotate 360° on the spot, and can move around the harbour safely by mooring without aid.

INTERIOR DESIGN

The interior of the Vintage48 is designed for habitability and semi-residential use of the vessel, beyond pleasure sailing.

The result is a spacious owner’s quarters with a central bed and walk-in wardrobe, and just one other guest cabin, for the benefit of a comfortable living area, located on the same level as the cockpit – accessible via a sliding glass door – and equipped with large bright windows.

THE SAIL PLAN

A large sail plan has been designed to facilitate the handling of the boat. The boom and mainsail have been eliminated, while there are three new generation genoas made of advanced materials, to be used according to different wind strengths. This rig allows the sails to be opened effortlessly and with a reduced crew: the boat can be sailed solo. It makes you want to go out to sea at any time!
